Khalil Foods

Product photography, layouts and reels for the company that stocks Kuwait's kitchens.

Khalil International distributes ingredients from more than 20 countries to hotels, restaurants, cafes and bakeries in Kuwait. Its customers are chefs, so the content had to look like it was made by people who cook. Bricks shot the range in the studio and in the kitchen, then built it into a run of layouts and reels.

01

The brief

Khalil sells to chefs, bakers and buyers, people who judge an ingredient in a second. The content needed to show the range, prove the quality and make a wholesale brand worth following. We treated every tin, tub and sack as the hero of its own picture.

02

A pantry on set

Red is Khalil's colour, so the studio set was built from it: red tiles, red sweeps and white plinths. Rice, tomatoes, sea salt and sauces were stacked, spilled and opened so the pack and the product share the frame.

Tins and sacks of Acquerello rice on red, with rice spilling from an open tin.
Open cans from the Ristoris range stacked on red tiles.
Boxes of coarse and fine sea salt arranged as a blue grid.
Tomatoes, capers and burrata in their packs, with the pizza they make above.

03

Layouts that carry a headline

Some frames were composed for type from the start. Space was left for a headline, the logo and the web address, so the designed posts and the clean photographs come from one shoot and sit together in the grid.

The burrata post, a plated burrata with tomatoes and edible flowers under the headline.
The Bread Story post, with flour, loaves and a kitchen scale.
The A range of flavours post, a can of peeled tomatoes on a white plinth.
The Genuine Italian quality post, a tub of mozzarella di bufala.

04

Hands in the kitchen

A pastry chef in a Khalil jacket pours, whisks and spreads, because an ingredient means more when someone is using it. The sauce series repeats one action across flavours, so it works as a carousel.

Black olive sauce spread on focaccia, from the sauce series.
Pistachio sauce spread on focaccia, from the sauce series.

05

Close enough to taste

The texture shots do the persuading. Mascarpone set into a tiramisu, butter folded into croissants and a cheese board cut for service show what the products become once they leave the warehouse.

Croissants around a block of French lamination butter.
A cheese board flat lay with burrata toast, cubes and slices.
Peeled tomatoes lifted from the can with a ladle on a white set.

06

In motion

The reels follow the same idea. One sets out what Khalil stands for, one follows butter all the way to a finished croissant, and one watches cheese being cut to order.
